About the artist
Andriy Klishyn was born on February 27, 1958, in the city of Kirovodobad, Republic of Azerbaijan, USSR. His grandfather, Alexey Klishin, migrated there from the Orenburg region due to hunger and poverty, settling among the free Cossacks from Ukraine as part of the Stolypin reform of 1906. Andriy's father worked as a highly skilled machine operator and coordinator, while his mother was a German language teacher. Shortly after his birth, they relocated to Eastern Kazakhstan, specifically to Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he spent 15 years, completing his education and upbringing. In 1975, he moved to Crimea, and by 1978, he had settled in Eastern Ukraine, in the city of Gorlovka. Since May 2014, he has been living in Kyiv as a forced migrant.
His rich life experiences have been a wellspring of creativity. His art is characterized by its ambiguity and distinctiveness, possibly because he paints with deep emotional resonance. Klishyn often employs intuitive drawing, channeling elements from his subconscious, soul, and heart.
"It feels as though I or my essence have encountered these images in past or future lives."
He has created over two hundred and fifty paintings, with approximately forty of them finding homes in private collections and museums.
